The Barrel Bros’ Review

The nose of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof is dominated by sweet, ripe bananas and vanilla wafer, reminiscent of banana cream pie. There’s a touch of toasted almond and a creamy custard-like note that brings to mind holiday desserts. There is also come nuttiness that adds some depth.

The palate mirrors the nose with a viscous mouthfeel. Sweet banana nut bread takes center stage, but there is a touch of medicinal cherry that thankfully quickly fades. It drinks hot, with the proof making its presence known, but the richness of the flavors helps balance the heat. While not quite a special occasion pour, it stands above an everyday sip, perfect for a relaxed weekend night.

The finish starts with lingering banana and oak, but the proof begins to dominate, drying out the experience. The sweet oak quickly turns into a more charred, burnt oak note, shifting away from the initial dessert-like profile. Some hints of cherry remain, and the finish feels slightly underwhelming compared to the nose and palate.

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof lives up to its reputation for delivering bold banana and sweet oak flavors. While the finish falls a bit short, the rich and viscous palate makes this a solid barrel proof option for those who enjoy the signature Jack Daniel’s profile. At a $70 MSRP that varies based on batch and retailer, it’s a worthwhile bottle to grab on sale if you enjoy high-proof Tennessee whiskey with a dessert-like twist.

Whether sipped on a cold evening or shared among friends, this bottle offers a unique and enjoyable experience at its price point.

THE NOSE:
Sweet bananas with vanilla wafers
, smells like banana creme pie.

It's not an artificial banana but a ripe dessert banana with just a bit of nuttiness.

It's rich and sweet.

THE TASTE:
Surprisingly the palate tastes exactly like the nose! It's sweet banana nut bread, with a hit of proof.

It's a hot sip, and it has a burn to it. However, the flavor is really good if you like bananas.

The mouthfeel is full and viscous and really coats the palate.

THE FINISH:
The proof from the palate really starts to dominate and dry out the finish
. I lose some of the banana and start to get more oak and cherry.

This part of the pour was a bit disappointing for me. The final notes leave a banana pancake flavor.

BUY OR PASS?
This really lives up to the Jack Daniels banana profile moniker. So for those who enjoy that flavor, it is really pretty enjoyable. The finish leaves a bit to be desired, but overall it’s a pretty solid pour.

THE NOSE:
This one comes in heavy and rich, with candied banana leading the way.

There’s a touch of toasted almond and the creaminess of a banana or coconut crème pie.

It reminds me of custard pie and Thanksgiving desserts.

THE TASTE:
It’s sweet, fruity, and definitely drinks hot, but not in an unpleasant way.

It feels like a step above an everyday pour, though not quite in the “special occasion” category—perfect for a weekend night.

Early sips brought a bit of medicinal cherry, but that faded quickly. The banana from the nose makes a return, along with a general fruity and sweet profile that’s enjoyable even if it’s hard to place.

THE FINISH:
Here’s where things fall short for me. The finish leans heavily on oak, starting with sweet oak but quickly moving to charred, burnt oak.

It’s not terrible, but it doesn’t match the quality of the nose or palate and feels a bit underwhelming.

BUY OR PASS?
I really enjoy these bottles for what they are—great sipping pours for a cold evening. While they might not hold up in a head-to-head ranking against other premium bottles, they’re satisfying and comforting when you’re not trying to analyze every detail.

A solid choice to have on hand for the right mood.
