THE NOSE:
Rich caramel and dark fruits, with a strong fig note.

It reminds me of maple syrup on a Saturday morning waffle, with a little buttered pie crust and honeycomb in the background.

THE TASTE:
It sits heavy in the mouth, bringing in dark licorice or a Tootsie Roll, followed by oak.

Unfortunately, there’s a bit of an alcohol bite that takes away from the experience.

THE FINISH:
A general sweetness lingers on the finish, with notes of dark plum or grape jam.

It’s enjoyable, but I wish it stuck around longer.

BUY OR PASS?
This is a solid bourbon, but at $150, I’m not sure it justifies the price. It’s nice, but not particularly complex.

If you’re looking for something from Augusta, I’d say the Old Route 8 is a much better bottle for the cost.

The Story Behind Buckner’s 10-Year

Buckner's 10-Year Single Barrel Bourbon is a distinguished offering from Augusta Distillery, located in Augusta, Kentucky. This bourbon pays homage to Revolutionary War Captain Philip Buckner, who founded the city in 1797. As the youngest expression in their premium lineup, this 10-year-old, cask-strength bourbon strives to deliver a maturity beyond its age. While the distillery has not publicly disclosed the specific source of this bourbon, it is known to be distilled at an undisclosed Kentucky distillery. Online users believe Heaven Hill.

Looking ahead, Augusta Distillery is poised for significant growth. They have embarked on a $23 million project to establish a state-of-the-art distillery and event center in the historic F.A. Neider building, a 40,000-square-foot facility dating back to 1883. This expansion aims to reach full production capacity by summer 2024, transforming the site into a premier bourbon destination.

This investment not only underscores Augusta Distillery's commitment to producing exceptional bourbon but also highlights their dedication to revitalizing the local community. As a bourbon enthusiast, I'm eager to see how these developments will enhance their offerings and contribute to the rich tapestry of Kentucky bourbon craftsmanship.
