The Barrel Bros’ Review

The nose of this Green River Single Barrel greets you with a rich nose that’s like dessert in a glass. Notes of crème brûlée topped with raspberry or strawberry syrup lead the charge, followed by the sugary smell of a powdered jelly-filled donut. A subtle woodiness provides balance, while layers of chocolate-covered popcorn, caramel corn, and peanut brittle add some nice depth. Imagine nosing a mix of festive chocolate-covered cherries and warm funnel cake—it's decadent and endlessly enjoyable.

The mouthfeel of the palate is luxurious and buttery, delivering a flavor profile that’s both sweet and syrupy. It brings to mind the experience of an apple pie drizzled with maple syrup, with an undercurrent of melted chocolate and peanut brittle sweetness. The darker caramel and butterscotch notes build as it opens up, creating a complex and very satisfying sip.

The finish stays true to the pour’s sweeter side, carrying forward the rich flavors from the palate. There’s a small amount of oak char that adds depth without overpowering the sweetness. It’s long-lasting, warm, and balanced.

The Green River Single Barrel is an exceptional pour that hides its proof point beautifully, making it approachable yet indulgent. It delivers the kind of experience bourbon lovers dream of, reminiscent of some of the best single barrels out there, like a good Stagg Jr.

At its $60 MSRP, this bottle is a steal. The only downside? Its single-barrel nature makes it a rare find, and you’ll wish you could grab a case. This is one bottle worth every bit of its price.

The Rye Guy Says

Score: 8.5/10
Value: 4.5/5

THE NOSE:
The nose was decadent like creme brulee topped with a raspberry or strawberry syrup.

It’s very sweet like opening a can of jam. It’s like a powered jelly filled donut.

There is a woodiness, not particularly oak, that balances out the sweetness.

THE TASTE:
The palate is melted butter, so decadent.

It tastes like how I would imagine a sweet apple pie made with green apples and a touch of maple syrup.

THE FINISH:
The finish stays on the sweet side and does not dry out the mouth.

And continues that flavor’s from the palate.

What’s really nice about the finish is that it stays juicy.

BUY OR PASS?
It drinks so well, it really hides its proof point. It is a very decadent pour for those that enjoy a balanced and sweet whiskey. It really hits the flavors that I enjoy.

The Hunter Says

Score: 8/10
Value: 5/5

THE NOSE:
Chocolate and caramel. It reminds me of chocolate-covered popcorn mixed with caramel corn.

Maybe even a little chocolate-covered cherry at Christmas time. Peanut brittle, vanilla, honey, nugget, Funnel cake.

I could literally nose this forever.

THE TASTE:
A sweet and syrupy mouthfeel, with flavors of chocolate and peanut, in a way that I love.

The proof hug comes in and feels great, leading to darker caramel and butterscotch notes.

THE FINISH:
It stays on the sweeter side,
which I love, but eventually, some oak char comes in.

It’s good and not overpowering.

BUY OR PASS?
This reminds me a lot of a good Stagg Jr. It is exceptional. It’s sweet and full of great flavor.

I can’t say enough great stuff about this bottle. I’m sad that this is a single barrel and won’t be findable again, because I’d buy a case at least.
