The Barrel Bros’ Review

The nose of the Jack Daniels 10-Year offers exactly what you'd want in a whiskey. It’s rich and fruity, with notes of banana nut muffin, caramel, and fudge, balanced by the perfect amount of oak.

There’s also a hint of pineapple upside-down cake and marshmallow, with a subtle touch of cola and bright orange.

The mouthfeel is smooth and buttery, especially impressive at its lower proof. While the overall flavor profile is classic bourbon, there are subtle notes of char, cherry, and a hint of grape bubble gum. It leans more savory than sweet, offering a fruity and nutty experience.

The char and oak add depth, though the palate doesn’t fully deliver on the sweetness suggested by the nose.

The finish is where the oak, char, and 10 years of aging truly shine. It’s long and lingering, with a slight earthy quality. There’s a bit of alcohol bite with lingering sweetness, but it leaves a slightly muted impression compared to the richness of the nose.

Jack Daniels 10-Year delivers a complex and enjoyable experience, especially considering its 97 proof. While the palate may not be the sweetest or most dynamic, the overall quality of the whiskey is undeniable.

Its $70 MSRP — if you can find it for that — offers great value for those looking for a well-aged, well-rounded pour. Though it doesn’t quite stick the landing in the finish like the Jack Daniels 12-year, it’s still a fantastic addition to any collection.

The Rye Guy Says

Score: 8/10
Value: 4.5/5

THE NOSE:
This is exactly what I want bourbon to smell like. It’s rich, mostly fruity and I get just a hint of banana nut muffin.

The perfect amount and balance of oak and red fruit notes.

It’s sweet and reminds me of fresh caramel or homemade fudge, and a hint of pineapple upside-down cake.

THE TASTE:
Melted butter mouth feel, which is incredible for the lower proof point.

It has a very standard bourbon flavor overall, but digging into some of the more subtle flavors I get a bit of char or charcoal with a hint of cherry.

It’s mostly a fruity and nutty profile, but It’s not as sweet as the nose would lead on and presents more savory.

This wouldn’t be my typical “Up” based on the flavor, but the overall quality has to be acknowledged.

THE FINISH:
This is where the oak, char, and the 10 years really come through.

It has a pretty incredible finish for the proof point, and the finish really stays with you.

Something reminds me of what eating snow tastes like, which I guess is probably an earthy profile.

BUY OR PASS?
Pretty impressed with this bottle!

I don’t think the palate is my favorite profile, but you can’t dismiss the quality of this whiskey.

The Hunter Says

Score: 7.5/10
Value: 4.5/5

jack-daniels-10-year-rating

THE NOSE:
Bright and packed with tons of notes, but without that big proof punch.

There’s a fruity side — orange stands out — along with muted dark caramels, likely because of the lower proof.

After a bit, the oak and marshmallow start to come through, and I kept going back for more!

There's even a hint of cola in there.

THE TASTE:
It sits in the mouth feeling refreshing, with a bit of proof making itself known.

I get grape bubble gum and this dark note that reminds me of an Old Forester profile, but it’s tough to pin down exactly what it is.

THE FINISH:
The finish is there, but mostly what I’m getting is an alcohol bite with a touch of sweetness.

It leaves me slightly disappointed compared to the rest of the experience.

BUY OR PASS?
For only 97 proof, this pour has a lot of complexity and keeps evolving as you sip it, which is always impressive.

While it doesn’t quite stick the landing, it's still a pretty great pour overall.
